The Embrace dress pattern is here and we are loving all the different combinations that can be made with the included options. As with most new releases we have a super fun and easy modification to share with you.
The fitted skirt from the Embrace pattern can be made with or without the vertical flounce. The inlcuded pattern piece results in a lovely front flounce that cascades from waistline to hem.
Want a more dramatic flounce? Here's how to make it happen.
I wanted the flounce to gradually narrow as it went down the length of the skirt. I started with the original pattern piece as a guide. I did not alter the interior circle as it is based on the length of the skirt. Starting at the line marked 'CUT' gradually increase the height of the outer circle as you go around to the other side. You can also do the reverse and start with a larger outer circle and decrease the height as you make your way in. One option or the other might work better especially for directional prints but both produce the same result.
Here is the fabric after cutting.
I then followed the tutorial to attach the flounce to the skirt front.
Super easy right?
BONUS! How about another easy modification?
Placement of the front flounce is very easy to adjust. If you want your flounce closer to the sideseam, reduce the width of skirt piece B and then add that width to skirt piece A. It's important to add the same amount you took off so the total width of the skirt front does not change.
Here is an example where the front flounce is more forward but not center front.
And here the flounce is slightly off center.
All options look great and this is an easy adjustment to do based on personal preferences.
